Which Civil War General Are You?

With Civil War games you get the chance to be all sorts of people but who are you really most like?
I saw this quiz and couldn't resist having a go. I'm not too thrilled by the result though!

You scored as U.S. Grant, One of the most misunderstood figures of the war, your campaign at Vicksburg was a work of military genius, but future generations will come to view you as a butcher who won by weight of numbers. Sorry 'bout that.

Which American Civil War General are you?

That's me alright - clever but often misunderstood :-) and quite likely to cause mayhem in pursuit of 'doing the right thing' ! What about you? Why not have a go yourself and see who you'd be. You might be surprised.

Civil War Games to Play Online

Not all online civil war games are as realistic as this new one from the Historical Online Learning Foundation in Delaware. The foundation is testing an online War Between the States simulation game. Play is due to start August 2007 and seems likely to last as long as the war itself. This one is so serious that you are warned about the level of commitment you need to make and you have to take an entrance exam before you can take part!
This game will mix elements of role play games and war games. You can learn by playing civil war games. You can use the game to learn history without even realising it. You will soon become familiar with all the major players and battles. History comes to life before your eyes as you become engrossed in the realistic simulations. You are on the battle field taking life and death decisions and the fate of your men rests in your hands. You might be able to change history or at the very least feel part of it.

Civil War Games, Avoiding Wasted Trips

It's well worth checking that conventions really are going to feature historical games and not just fantasy ones. Although fantasy gamers share dice the whole culture is totally different. Even though you may have pre-registered for a convention it's well worth checking that there will be other civil war games enthusiasts there.
Scot Mingus details a few warning signs, like everyone talking about orks and wizards, plus no relevant t-shirts being worn that made him uneasy at a convention a few years ago.

You are not going to have that problem at Fall In of course!

Civil War Games at Fall In - Gettysburg November 9th through 11th - 2007

Civil war games will be heavily featured at Fall In in Gettysburg this year. The web site promises "awesome games, fantastic vendors, competitive tournaments and relaxing special events."

This year’s theme is Westward Ho! American Expansion: 1789 to 1889.

This period of constant conflict with Native Americans, European nations, Mexico, and even Americans unhappy with America saw the expansion of America's boundries .

There will be tournaments to watch, lots of painting events, collections of soldiers admire and to a chance to walk the battlefield. If you are a big Civil War buff Gettysburg by itself is a wonderful place to visit, add a toy soldier convention, and it is ideal for enthusiasts or beginners. You need to book quickly once pre-registration opens in September though as places will go fast!
