It's well worth checking that conventions really are going to feature historical games and not just fantasy ones. Although fantasy gamers share dice the whole culture is totally different. Even though you may have pre-registered for a convention it's well worth checking that there will be other civil war games enthusiasts there.
Scot Mingus details a few warning signs, like everyone talking about orks and wizards, plus no relevant t-shirts being worn that made him uneasy at a convention a few years ago.
You are not going to have that problem at Fall In of course!
Civil War Games at Fall In - Gettysburg November 9th through 11th - 2007
Civil war games will be heavily featured at Fall In in Gettysburg this year. The web site promises "awesome games, fantastic vendors, competitive tournaments and relaxing special events."
This year’s theme is Westward Ho! American Expansion: 1789 to 1889.
This period of constant conflict with Native Americans, European nations, Mexico, and even Americans unhappy with America saw the expansion of America's boundries .
There will be tournaments to watch, lots of painting events, collections of soldiers admire and to a chance to walk the battlefield. If you are a big Civil War buff Gettysburg by itself is a wonderful place to visit, add a toy soldier convention, and it is ideal for enthusiasts or beginners. You need to book quickly once pre-registration opens in September though as places will go fast!
